Ingredients:

• 1 large ripe avocado

• 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion

• 2 fresh red chili peppers (“dedo-de-moça” or red jalapeños), deseeded

• 1 large tomato, peeled and finely diced

• 2 sprigs of fresh cilantro, chopped

• Juice of ½ lemon (or lime)

• Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh with a spoon.
  2. Place the flesh in a bowl and mash until creamy, leaving a few small chunks.
  3. Add the chopped onion, deseeded and chopped chilies, diced tomato, and cilantro. Mix everything well.
  4. Add lemon juice and salt to taste. Mix again and adjust seasoning if needed.
  5. Serve immediately with tortilla chips or as a side for your favorite Mexican dishes.

Additional Information:

Choose a ripe but firm avocado. It should give slightly when gently squeezed.

Prefer a milder flavor? Use a less spicy chili or skip it altogether.

Like it hotter? Add cayenne pepper or hot sauce to taste.

For a different twist, try adding minced garlic or red onion.
